ANTIQUE TABLE BEADING

Hand-turned replacement beading carefully matched to the existing finish.

The fine beading beneath this antique table’s apron is a small detail that helps define its character, following the straight edges and rounded corners above the turned legs. A missing section interrupted that continuous decorative border.

John made replacement beading on the lathe, matching the profile and spacing of the existing beads. The new section was then fitted alongside the surviving moulding. Photographed at this stage, the pale unfinished timber clearly reveals the extent of the repair and the relationship between the new work and the original detail.

Once fitted, the replacement was colour matched and polished to blend with the surrounding wood. Matching both the tone and sheen was essential to making the repair sit comfortably within the aged finish.
