BUTTONED TUB CHAIR

Completely stripped and reupholstered in calico, with a curved buttoned back and distinctive turned legs.

John completely stripped this tub armchair to expose its timber seat frame and curved metal back and arm supports, before rebuilding the upholstery and covering it in calico.

The photographs reveal the work beneath the finished surface: shaped padding around the back and arms, securing stitches, and the hessian seat foundation. Buttoning draws the calico into soft folds across the curved back, while the smooth seat follows the shaped front rail.

The pale upholstery contrasts with the dark turned wooden legs and brass castors, giving the finished chair a simple appearance that makes its form and detailing stand out.
