OAK FOLDING SCREEN

A handmade oak folding screen combining bespoke joinery with delicate tissue-paper artwork.

John made the oak frame for this bespoke four-panel dressing screen, bringing together practical furniture making and the work of a local artist from Mountsorrel. The artist created the tissue-paper composition, which was enclosed behind glass within the oak frames.

Flowering branches, a birdcage and a pale circular motif extend across the panels, set against a rich pink background. The simple oak framing gives the artwork room to stand out, while hinged connections allow the screen to fold and adapt to its setting.

Photographed in its bedroom setting, the finished piece serves as both a dressing screen and a decorative feature. The assembly photograph offers a closer look at the oak frames alongside the artwork as it developed.
