RECARO VW PICKUP SEATS
A pair of Recaro seats reupholstered for a customer’s self-built Volkswagen pickup.
These Recaro seats came to John as part of a customer’s self-built Volkswagen campervan pickup project. The customer had sourced the pair and wanted them reupholstered before installing them in the vehicle, giving the cabin a fresh finish that suited the character of the build.
The original grey upholstery was worn, but the seats had a distinctive shape worth retaining. The new covering combines plain black outer panels with red-and-grey checked cotton-polyester fabric through the centres. The black frames the sculpted bolsters, while the check follows the backrests and seat cushions, bringing pattern and colour to the interior. The Recaro badges remain a recognisable detail.
Photographed in the finished pickup, the red lines in the fabric echo the bodywork, tying the seats into their surroundings. It is a personal project in which the upholstery forms part of a much larger undertaking: a vehicle built by its owner, with seats given a new finish ready for their place in it.
