MARQUETRY & FRETWORK

Restoration of a richly figured cabinet with floral marquetry, turned supports and delicate scroll fretwork.

This decorative cabinet brings together richly figured wood, fine inlaid borders and a floral marquetry centrepiece. Above the enclosed cupboard, turned supports frame an open display shelf, while a delicate pierced fretwork gallery finishes the top.

John restored the cabinet and repaired the fretwork, preserving the scroll pattern that gives the piece much of its character. The completed cabinet retains its distinctive detailing, from the slender turned supports to the small castors beneath its base.

Shown in its original arched alcove, the restored piece is complemented by studio photographs of the complete cabinet and its repaired gallery.
