PEDESTAL DINING TABLE

An existing dining table extended with two bespoke turned pedestals and a carefully matched finish.

The customer wanted to extend their dining table while retaining its original character. John enlarged the tabletop’s extension section and made two additional pedestal supports, turning the timber himself on the lathe to complement the existing design.

The work combined cabinetmaking, woodturning and finishing. The extended tabletop retained its rounded ends and moulded edge, with three pedestals supporting its increased length. Workshop photographs document the new timber being shaped on the lathe and the underside assembly taking shape on the bench.

John polished the new components and repolished the existing table to bring everything together in a consistent finish. The completed piece offers more space around the table while preserving the familiar character of the customer’s furniture.
